It can run on Windows 7, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, and Windows Server 2008 R2. The Questa advanced simulator is the core simulation and debug engine of the Questa verification solution the comprehensive advanced verification platform capable of reducing the risk of validating complex FPGA and SoC designs. It is compatible with all Altera gadgets and also boasts support on Windows and Linux operating systems. The Starter Edition of ModelSim also has support for the Quartus II Web Edition and Subscription Edition software. Other than this, though, the two versions of the software are more or less the same: the paid version will naturally run faster, however. The executable modelsim.exe is in the folder /win32peedu. Concerning the path: There is no such folder called 'bin' in the modelsim installation path. However, the licensed (paid) version also has no limits on the number of executable lines. Thanks, but I have only access to the student version, and the current release is unfortunately 10.4a. The for-purchase edition still outdoes it by performing at twice the speed of the average field-programmable gate array simulator, but obviously does so in exchange for a cost. It is the free version of the ModelSim software from Altera and thus has restrictions on its use: it can only be used with a maximum of 10,000 executable line limitations and has 1.5x the simulation performance (or speed) of comparable field-programmable gate array simulators on the market. The ModelSim-Altera Starter Edition is a program for use in the simulation of small field-programmable gate arrays.
